The DL on the DL (All-Star Break Edition)
Updates from around Major League Baseball on players who are "freshly back" from the disabled list or "newly gone" to the DL.
Freshly Back:
- Minnesota Twins LF Delmon Young: Young was activated on July 11th, after missing 15 days with a right ankle sprain. Initially, this injury looked much more serious as Young was carted off the field after making awkward contact with the left-field wall. Rene Tosoni was optioned to Triple-A Rochester.
- Los Angeles Dodgers C Rod Barajas: Barajas was activated on July 14th after missing 25 days, also with a right ankle sprain. A.J. Ellis was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.
- Texas Rangers RHP Scott Feldman: Feldman was activated on July 14th after missing the entire season recovering from right knee surgery last November. Zachary Phillips was designated for assignment.
- Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Geoff Blum: Blum was activated on July 15th after also missing the entire season with right knee problems. His was simply swollen and did not require surgery. Juan Miranda was outrighted to Triple-A Reno.
Newly Gone:
- Cleveland Indians RHP Mitch Talbot - 15-Day DL retroactive to June 9th, Lower back strain: Ezequiel Carrera was recalled from Triple-A Columbus.
- New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez - 15-Day DL retroactive to July 8th, Meniscus tear in right knee: Rodriguez will undergo surgery and return in four-to-six weeks. Greg Golson was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Eduardo Nunez is expected to get a majority of the starts at third base.
- Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso - 15-Day DL retroactive to July 10, Right oblique strain: Jose Lobaton was recalled from Triple-A Durham. Lobaton has not appeared in a major league game since July 2009, when he played seven games for the Padres.
