Twins Rumors: The Latest On Denard Span, Other Trades

The Twins aren't necessarily sellers given that they're not that far out of first place at the moment, but there's been continued interest in some of their players on the trade market. And so far, we haven't definitively heard from anyone near the Twins that they're not listening, so let's dig into the latest Twins rumors circling at the moment, courtesy of Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports:

  • The Twins continue to talk with the Nationals about center fielder Denard Span, but apparently the Twins aren't enamored with what Washington is offering. Rosenthal reported earlier today that talks about Span have centered on a return that sends Nationals closer Drew Storen to Minnesota, but there have been conflicting reports on the former first-round pick's availability.
  • Adding to their Span-to-Washington rumors, Rosenthal and Morosi spoke to one source that believes that the Nationals are concerned about Span's recent concussion. Span is currently on the disabled list recovering from that injury; Ben Revere has been the team's primary center fielder since the injury, and he would likely retain that role if Span is dealt.
  • The two teams have discussed one scenario that includes Nationals outfielder Roger Bernadina as well. According to the FOX Sports duo, this scenario would see Bernadina and Storen going to Minnesota, with Span and another player being sent to Washington. Bernadina would give the Twins some added outfield depth.
  • The Twins are open to dealing outfielders Delmon Young, Jason Kubel and Michael Cuddyer, as well as starter Kevin Slowey. Interest in Young as been "tepid" but both Kubel and Cuddyer are receiving strong interest from contenders; Rosenthal and Morosi believe that Kubel is more likely to be dealt in the coming days, though.
