MLB Trade Deadline: Brewers Acquire Jerry Hairston Jr from Nationals

The Brewers made another minor trade this morning, acquiring utility infielder/outfielder Jerry Hairston Jr. from the Nationals in exchange for minor league outfielder Erik Komatsu. Hairston will provide depth for the team, as they try to find a player to replace the injured Rickie Weeks in the short term. Hairston has played 2B, 3B, SS, and in the outfield for the Nationals, and will likely take on the role for the Brewers as well.

Komatsu has spent the season at AA, posting a ..294/.393/.416 with 6 HR, 40 RBI, and 13 SB. One of the few decent prospects left in the Brewers' system, beat writer Adam McCalvy noted that the reason they may have been willing to include Komatsu in a minor trade like this is because the team will be facing a crunch on their 40-man roster in the offseason

ESPN's Chris Singleton broke the story via Twitter that Hairston had been traded, and CBS Sports' Scott Miller reported via Twitter that Komatsu would be the return.
