Remember when you were a kid and you were expecting a certain gift for Christmas? Do remember the feeling you had when you woke up in the morning and running to the tree in anticipation of opening that gift?
Then do you remember the feeling you got when you finally opened the gift and it was the complete opposite of what you expected? There was nothing more disappointing. It was like expecting a Dinobot and getting a cheap Gobot.
I kind of feel that's how the San Francisco Giants feel about Carlos Beltran.
Beltran was the big offensive prize of the July 31 trade deadline and so far, Beltran hasn't lived up to expectations. Beltran is hitting .244/.261/.356 with zero home runs in 45 plate appearances in a Giants' uniform and now he has been placed on the 15-day DL.
The Giants placed Beltran on the 15-day DL with a strained right hand. The move is retroactive to August 8.
By the time Beltran returns, the Giants will have a little over a month to get something out of him. The Giants are in a dogfight with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West and Beltran's health and production is going to be key for the Giants down the stretch.
