Chicago Cubs News and Notes: Zambrano, Hendry, GM Search

The Chicago Cubs are the subject of discussion in baseball right now after firing general manager Jim Hendry. Let's take a look at the latest Cubs-related news and notes:

  • The MLBPA has filed a grievance on behalf of pitcher Carlos Zambrano, who was placed on the disqualified list by the Cubs one week ago, according to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com. A player on the disqualified list will not be paid or allowed contact with the team for 30 days.
  • SB Nation's Rob Neyer Grades Jim Hendry's Big Moves and concludes Hendry seemed to fare better when making small deals rather than blockbuster moves.
  • SB Nation's Jeremiah Oshan compiled quotes from Jim Hendry's emotional press conference. Hendry revealed he was fired back on July 22, but decided to stick around through the trade and signing deadline because "it would have been shameful" not to.
  • The next general manager for the Cubs will be someone outside of the organization and will emphasize player development, reports MLB.com's Carrie Muskat
