The Florida Marlins have designated outfielder Dewayne Wise for assignment to make room on the 25-man roster for outspoken left fielder/first basemen Logan Morrison, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post.
Wise, 33, is famously known for making one of the best defensive plays in history when he saved White Sox's starting pitcher Mark Buehrle's perfect game against the Rays. Unfortunately for Wise, he's in the midst of one of his worst seasons hitting 239/.278/.269 in 72 plate appearances this season for the Marlins. Wise is striking out more than 29% of the time, is only walking at a 4.2% clip this season, and is hitting for less power than he ever has in his career.
Morrison was down the 10 days necessary to get recalled. Major League Baseball's rule is that if a player is optioned to the minor leagues, he cannot return to the major-league club until 10 days after reporting to the affiliate, unless he's been traded or replacing a player on the disabled list.
