The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced via Twitter that they have designated infielder Cody Ransom for assignment. The move was made in order to make room on the 25-man roster for newly acquired second basemen Aaron Hill, and infielder John McDonald.
Cody Ransom is hitting .152/.243/.303 in only 37 plate appearances at the major league level this season. He's spent most of the season playing in the for Class Triple-A Reno (Arizona's Triple-A affiliate). The 35-year-old Ransom has hit .331/.412/.657 with 26 homers in 396 plate appearances, however, it is the hitter-friendly PCL league.
The Colorado Rockies have designated shortstop Ryan Rohlinger for assignment, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.The move was made to make room on the 40-man roster for newly acquired third basemen Kevin Kouzmanoff.
Roghlinger, 27, started the season as a Giant, but was selected off waivers by the Rockies. The Rockies gave him more than a fair shot to show if he could stick, but he hit just .174/.294/.331 in 144 plate appearances in the hitter-friendly PCL league.
Brewers have outrighted infielder Felipe Lopez to Triple-A Nashville after clearing waivers, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel. Lopez was designated for assignment on Sunday. The 31-year-old Lopez is hitting .206/.247/.277 in 153 plate appearances on the year between stints with the Rays and Brewers.
