No one provides more insight on all things Rockies than Troy Renck of the Denver Post. Let's check out the latest rumors Renck on the Rockies from his weekly mailbag:
- Look for the Rockies to add a veteran pitcher and at least one more big bat. They could pursue Carl Pavano, and chase after Wandy Rodriguez in the off-season. Twins' Michael Cuddyer, Mets' David Wright will be targeted via trade, but could cost a lot in terms of prospects. Cubs' Aramis Ramirez and Oakland's Josh Willingham are possible free-agent signings.
- Sources told Renck the Rockies were content on keeping Ubaldo Jimenez if the Indians had not included Drew Pomeranz and Alex White.
- The Rockies top prospect Drew Pomeranz could be in the major-league rotation in May.
- The Rockies have interest in re-signing Mark Ellis to a short-term deal. We mentioned earlier that Ellis could be the second baseman next season.
- The Rockies will give catching prospect Wilin Rosario a look in September. He's become a good defender at the backstop, but his bat has disappointed. Rosario is posting a .281 OBP in Double-A Tulsa.
