Stark Dishes On: Realignment, Cubs GM, Davey Johnson

The fascinating Jayson Stark has his latest overstuffed Rumblings and Grumblings column up on ESPN. Let's check out some of the latest rumors:

  • Stark says MLB officials have met with Crane to encourage him to move the Astros into the American League.A vote was scheduled last month for Crane's approval, but the hold up is "applying leverage on Crane to change leagues." Stark's sources match up with what we wrote yesterday in regards to the Astros switching leagues (MLBDD Link).
  • Baseball has momentum toward realigning the sport into two 15-team leagues and six divisions of five teams each. The players will want a shortened season and realignment.
  • The insider kills rumors for big-time, well-known general managers in Andrew Friedman, Theo Epstein, Brian Cashman, Billy Beane to fill the Cubs vacant GM position. Whoever the future Cubs GM will be, he or she will certainly be a "young, creative, sabermetrically inclined executive."
  • As expected, Nationals GM Mike Rizzo will interview other managerial candidates before determining Davey Johnson as the manager for 2012. For what it's worth, Rizzo speaks very highly of the job Johnson's done for the team.
