The Baltimore Orioles designated both infielder Blake Davis and left-handed reliever Mark Hendrickson for assignment last night, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. The moves were made in order to make room on the 40-man roster for right-handed reliever Jeremy Accardo and left-handed reliever Clay Rapada from Class Triple-A Norfolk.
Blake Davis spent most of the year in Class Triple-A Norfolk, where he hit .280/.323/.384 with 5 homers in 252 plate appearances. Very similar to his slash line of .254/.323/.390 at the majors, albeit only 65 plate appearances.
This is the second time in the past week Mark Hendrickson has been designated for assignment by the Orioles. Last week, the southpaw was designated for assignment to make room for left-handed pitcher Troy Patton. The 37-year-old reliever is posting a poor 5.73 ERA with more walks (6) than strikeouts (5) in 11 innings of work this season. The veteran hasn't pitched since August 28th, and may be released in the upcoming days.
