After a pleasantly surprising 2011 with the San Francisco Giants, starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong is close to signing a new deal with the club, according to Mychael Urban of 95.7 FM The GAME. Urban reports Vogelsong's career year in 2011 will earn him a two-year deal with an option
Vogelsong, 34, posted a 2.71 ERA across 179 2/3 innings of work with an impressive 7.0 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9. After signing him to a minor league deal prior to last season, Vogelsong proved to be more than worth the chance.
- Twitter / @BigUrbSports: My Vogelsong report is NOT a rumor. Confirmed. #SFGiants had him take physical 2day. Deal came together quick I'm past 2 days @957thegame
- Twitter / @BigUrbSports: #SFGiants close to finalizing deal w/ Ryan Vogelsong. Two years plus an option. Still working on financial details for you. @957thegame
Now the question is, what do the salary numbers look like? I can't imagine it's an overpay, but the deal looks quite good right now. You'd have to figure the Giants are still looking to lockup their other starters, specifically Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum.
