- New Orioles GM Dan Duquette has been extremely active in the international market to this point, and he isn't done just yet. According to Nikkan Sports, the Baltimore Orioles have signed Japanese pitcher Yoshihiro Doi to a minor league contract.
- The Chicago Cubs signed shortstop Alfredo Amezaga to a minor league deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal notes the 33-year-old is currently playing shortstop in the Mexican League. Amezaga spent the 2011 season in the Rockies and Marlins organization.
- To make room on the 40-man roster for newly signed free agent Luke Scott, The Tampa Bay Rays designated catcher Nevin Ashley for assignment, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Ashley, 27, spent 2011 with the Rays minor league affiliates, and has never made it to the majors in his career.
