The Milwaukee Brewers have signed Nyjer Morgan to a one-year deal and avoid abritration, according to Tom Haudricourt and Adam McCalvy via twitter. McCalvy reports the deal is for $2.35 million.
Morgan, 31, enters his 6th season in the Majors. He was something of a phenom (at least according to my terrible fantasy teams from earlier this century) with the Pirates, but was traded to the Nationals along with Sean Burnett in exchange for Lastings Milledge and Joel Hanrahan (who signed earlier today). Last season, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for Cutter Dykstra.
Despite some questionable antics on the field and on twitter, Morgan is a decent hitter, posting a .288 / .347 / .374 career line. It strikes me that that twitter antics should have nothing to do with his talent, but anyone that saw his little walking-off-the-field-incident thing might connect the two.*
