The Cincinnati Reds are close to signing righty reliever Jose Arredondo to a two-year deal, according to Jon Heyman. A two year deal would cover two of his four arbitration seasons.
Arredondo, 27, had an impressive debut in 2008 and pitched 61 innings of 1.62 ERA baseball for the Los Angeles Angels, but struggled in 2009 with a 6.00 ERA. He then missed all of 2010 following Tommy John surgery, but bounced back in 2011 with a 3.23 ERA over 53 innings (and still had a couple DL stints) with the Reds.

Reds Notes: Outfielders Ankiel, Ludwick, Pierre; Minor Invites, Madson Move Adulation - MLB Daily Dish

Fay suggests targets might include Rick Ankiel, Ryan Ludwick, Juan Pierre, Kosuke Fukudome, and Cody Ross (which are all neat ways of saying you'd like the team to slightly overpay for slightly-better-than-replacement production).
