The Phillies have signed right-handed pitcher to a 1-year, $1.15 million deal according to the team.
Qualls, 33, enters his 9th season and carries a career 3.78 ERA. The team points out that Qualls has made more appearances than any other pitcher over the last seven seasons (512), but there's no telling whether that's a good or a bad sign.
Throughout his career, Qualls has averaged right around 70 innings pitched per season, and strikes out players at a 7.1 K/9 clip. That high of a K-rate often comes at a cost of increased walks, but Qualls has been able to keep them low and averages a 2.5 BB/9 for his career.
