Jerry Cransick from ESPN is reporting that the Philadelphia Phillies are interested in Kerry Wood, but only based on the health of Jose Conttreras. It had looked like Wood was a lock to re sign with the Chicago Cubs, but then it came out that he was actually talking with several other teams, and the Phillies are one of them.

The Phillies will have a new look bullpen this season with the addition of closer Jonathan Papelbon but the loss of Ryan Madson and Brad Lidge. Wood could be a good addition to that. Wood would likely only attract a one year deal, as he had elbow surgery last August after pitching in only 14 innings all season.

Jim Salisbury from CSN Philly says that Wood is seeking $4 million and that the Cubs and he cannot reach an agreement on money nor length of the deal, and that is why there is a current hold up with them. It seems the Phillies and Cubs are the only teams interested.
