The Boston Red Sox have contacted Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach regarding their open managerial position and are expected to interview him some time this week, reports Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald:
A year ago, the Red Sox attempted to interview Wallach for the managerial vacancy but their timing as well as language in his contract prevented that from getting anywhere.
"Certainly I’m interested," said Wallach this afternoon. "This is what I’ve wanted to do and what I’ve been preparing to do for some time."
As Wallach's contract with the Dodgers is expiring there is nothing to keep him from taking the job in Boston this time around. In addition to playing for seventeen seasons, the five-time All-Star third baseman managed the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate from 2009-2010.
The Red Sox are expected to begin their interview process within the week, with former catcher Brad Ausmus and Blue Jays manager John Farrell presumed to be the other top candidates vying for the job -- though Farrell's candidacy is not without complication.
