The Tigers acquired Baker from the Cubs in early August for two players to be named later. He appeared in 15 games for Detroit and was ultimately designated for assignment by the club after hitting .200/.243/.257 over 35 at-bats.
Baker was then traded to the Atlanta Braves for a PTBNL. He collected two hits over 19 at-bats and finished the season hitting .248/.287/.405 with 10 doubles and four home runs over 153 at-bats.
Carreno spent the past five seasons in the Tigers minor league system. The 21-year-old has played for the club’s Single-A affiliate for the past two years. In 2012 he maintained an ERA of 3.23 with 7.7 strikeouts per nine innings and 1.8 walks per nine innings over 27 starts. He owns a career minor league ERA of 3.70.
