The Baltimore Orioles sent cash considerations to the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the Joe Saunders trade, reports Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com.
Baltimore acquired Saunders from Arizona in August for right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom and a player to be named later. The Orioles and Diamondbacks were unable to reach an agreement on the PTBNL, so cash was used to complete the trade.
Saunders posted an ERA of 4.22 over 21 starts for the Diamondbacks before being shipped to Baltimore. He performed well over seven starts with the Orioles during the regular season, maintaining an ERA of 3.63. His impressive performance carried over to the postseason, as he allowed two runs on nine hits and five walks with nine strikeouts over 11 1/3 innings.
Saunders is set to become a free agent following the season, but there’s a chance he’ll be targeted and re-signed by the Orioles.
Lindstrom had a productive 2012 campaign, maintaining a combined ERA of 2.68 over 46 appearances.
