Beck, 27, made twenty-seven relief appearances for the Blue Jays over the past two seasons, posting a 5.50 ERA, 6.0 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in eighteen innings of work. All but three of the right-hander's big league appearances came this season, with Beck making short midseason and September stints with the club.
Solis, 25, got his first cup of coffee with the Padres this season, going hitless in four plate appearances. The righty-hitting backstop spent the 2012 season at Double-A San Antonio, where he hit .283/.307/.419 with six home runs in eighty-seven games.
To make room on the 40-man roster for the two new acquisitions, the Pirates have designated catcher Eric Fryer and first baseman Jeff Clement for assignment.
