Clayton Kershaw won't undergo hip surgery

The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that left-hander Clayton Kershaw will not require hip surgery this offseason, reports Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times:

Kershaw was sidelined by a hip impingement late in the season, and there was speculation that it would require an offseason procedure to fix. If the 24-year-old was forced to go under the knife, he could have potentially missed the first month of the 2013 regular season.

However, Kershaw’s hip doesn’t require surgery, meaning the 2011 National League Cy Young Award winner should be full-go when Spring Training rolls around.

While Kershaw didn’t finish the 2012 regular season with numbers quite as impressive as last year’s totals, he still managed to lead the majors in ERA and WHIP. He also finished second in the NL in strikeouts and innings pitched to New York Mets right-hander R.A. Dickey.

Over 33 starts spanning 227 2/3 innings Kershaw maintained an ERA and WHIP of 2.53 and 1.023 with 229 strikeouts.
