Long-time Indians catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. "expects" to remain on the Cleveland Indians coaching staff next season despite losing out on the managing job to Terry Francona, reports Paul Hoynes of the Plain Dealer:

Francona and GM Chris Antonetti have talked to Alomar about joining Francona's staff. It's believed he'd retain his role as bench coach. Alomar, a six-time All-Star catcher with the Indians, has one-year left on his contract.

He told me in a text message that he expects to return to the Tribe's staff.

The only thing that would keep Alomar from rejoining the Indians next season, according to Hoynes, is if he were tabbed for one of the other open MLB managerial positions. Boston and Colorado are on the prowl for a new manager and the Blue Jays could be on the lookout as well if the Red Sox claim John Farrell away from his position in Toronto.

Alomar has a history with all three clubs potentially seeking a manager. The 46-year-old interviewed with Boston last year before their ill-fated decision to go with Bobby Valentine, spent half a season in Denver as a player and was a finalist for the managerial job in Toronto two years ago.
