The Boston Red Sox are one of several teams interested in acquiring right-hander Dan Haren from the Los Angeles Angels, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
It was reported earlier this week that the Angels were working hard to trade pitchers Haren and Ervin Santana before they were forced to make a decision regarding their 2013 options. Los Angeles dealt Santana yesterday to the Kansas City Royals, and Jim Bowden of ESPN reports the team is expected to trade Haren by Friday.
Unlike the Santana trade, which netted the Angels a 27-year-old Triple-A left-handed specialist, Bowden says Haren will fetch "significant return."
Haren’s contract includes a $15.5 million team option for 2013 with a $3.5 million buyout. Los Angeles doesn’t want to pay that price for next season, but rather than simply buying out the deal and letting the 32-year-old walk the Angels would rather acquire something in exchange for him.
