Naturally, several teams have inquired about Anderson’s availability. The A’s, however, are informing clubs that they do not intend to trade him, according to major league sources.
Oakland general manager Billy Beane has made his name off of trading young pitchers away at their peak value, but the GM appears to be taking a different approach this winter. For the time being, Beane plans to hold onto the 24-year-old Anderson, who returned from Tommy John surgery late in the season to help lead the A's all the way to Game 5 of the ALDS, along with the rest of his young arms.
Anderson, who put up a 2.57 ERA in six regular season starts this past season, is set up to earn $5.75 million in 2013 and has options for the following two seasons totaling $20 million if exercised. The A's have already re-signed right-hander Bartolo Colon and have aspirations to re-sign fellow free-agent right-hander Brandon McCarthy as well, giving Oakland an enviable amount of depth in their starting rotation.
