MLB Rookie of the Year Award: Mike Trout, Bryce Harper

Outfielders Mike Trout and Bryce Harper were named MLB's Rookies of the Year last night.

The votes are in and your American and National League Rookies of the Year have been announced. Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout easily took home the honor, while Nationals slugger Bryce Harper edged out Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Wade Miley.

Trout’s win shouldn’t have surprised anyone. His ridiculous rookie campaign, during which he hit .326/.399/.564 with 27 doubles, eight triples, 30 home runs and 49 stolen bases in 54 attempts, has him under consideration for the AL’s Most Valuable Player Award.

Trout was the only player in the American league to receive first place votes. Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes finished second in voting, followed by Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish, Baltimore Orioles left-hander Wei-Yin Chen and A’s right-hander Jarrod Parker.

It was a tighter race in the NL, but Harper’s totals (.270/.340/.477 with 26 doubles, nine triples and 22 home runs) won out. He was followed by Miley, Todd Frazier, Wilin Rosario, Norichika Aoki, Yonder Alonso, Matt Carpenter and Jordan Pacheco.
