The Detroit Tigers have signed free agent outfielder Torii Hunter, pending physical, to a two-year contract worth $26 million. Detroit has found the corner outfielder it coveted entering the offseason, and Hunter was able to accomplish his goal; sign with a team that provides him with an opportunity to win the World Series.

Hunter spent last season with the Los Angeles Angels. In his fifth and final year in LA the outfielder hit .313/.365/.451 with 24 doubles and 16 home runs. The 37-year-old owns a career line of .277/.335/.466.

Hunter represents a significant upgrade as a corner outfielder for Detroit. Last season Tigers right fielders hit a combined .235/.285/.357 while their left fielders hit .275/.326/.409.

It’s been reported that Hunter is viewed as a solid number two hitter. If the Tigers decide to utilize him in this capacity they would have a projected top of the lineup that would include Austin Jackson, Hunter, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Victor Martinez.
