Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty shot down several rumors regarding his club on Thursday, exclaiming that the team has no plans to pursue outfielder Michael Bourn, to trade Zack Cozart, or to discuss a contract extension with Jay Bruce, reports John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer:
I just talked to Walt Jocketty. He wouldn’t say exactly what he’s going to do, but here’s a quick list of things he’s not going to do:
–Sign Michael Bourn. "You think we can afford him?" he said.
–Trade shortstop Zack Cozart.
–Sign Jay Bruce to an extension.
Jocketty told Fay that the rumors about Cozart and fellow shortstop Didi Gregorius were "overblown", and that there is no reason for the club to discuss an extension for Bruce when he is still under team control for the next five seasons.
He also added that the club is indeed seeking a closer -- and that Joakim Soria and Ryan Madson are in the mix -- but that any sort of move will not happen for at least a week or two.
