Dodgers rumors: LA are favorites to land Zack Greinke

The Angels and Rangers are rumored to be 'on the outside looking in'.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites to sign right-hander Zack Greinke, leaving the Angels and Rangers in the periphery, a source has told Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald:

According to an industry insider, the Dodgers are the favorites to wind up with top free agent starter Zack Greinke, with the Angels and Rangers on the outside looking in.

The Dodgers, who seem to have acquired an endless cache of money when their new owners arrived, have had the Cy Young winner on their radar for some time. The club already has a full rotation – and the team also won the bidding rights to left-hander Ryu Hyun-Jin – but LA would not have any problem making room for Greinke if need be.

If Silverman’s rumor is true, it bodes ill for the Angels’ offseason plans. The club has stated on numerous occasions that re-signing Greinke is their top priority this winter, and that the rest of the club would take shape once negotiations with the right-hander had concluded.

The Halos let both Dan Haren and Ervin Santana go in order to have the resources to bring Greinke back. If he goes elsewhere, the Angels’ rotation will be down to just Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson, with large question marks in the other three rotation spots.
