Blue Jays rumors: Anibal Sanchez, Edwin Jackson

The Toronto Blue Jays may still be in the market for a starting pitcher even after acquiring Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson from the Miami Marlins last week, reports Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald, who says two free agents "that could come into play" are Anibal Sanchez and Edwin Jackson:

Also, keep an eye on the Blue Jays on the starting pitching front, even with the additions of Johnson and Buehrle.

Toronto has several talented young arms, but injuries and ineffectiveness led to less than spectacular results in 2012. Blue Jays’ pitchers combined to rank 26^th in the majors in ERA (4.64), 22^nd in quality starts and 25^th in WHIP (1.39).

Over 31 combined starts with the Miami Marlins and Detroit Tigers last season Sanchez posted an ERA of 3.86. The 28-year-old owns a career mark of 3.75 with 7.6 strikeouts per nine innings and 3.3 walks per nine innings.

Jackson also started 31 games last season, maintaining an ERA of 4.03 in his first season with the Washington Nationals. The 29-year-old owns a career ERA of 4.40 with 6.9 SO/9 and 2.8 BB/9.
