Mets rumors: David Wright '50-50' to sign

Third baseman David Wright is a "50-50" proposition at best to sign a long-term contract extension with the New York Mets this offseason, reports Mike Puma of The New York Post:

According to an industry source with knowledge of the discussions, Wright is a "50-50" proposition at best to sign a long-term extension with the Mets this offseason, as the two sides continue to negotiate a deal that would potentially allow the All-Star third baseman to finish his career in Queens.

According to Puma’s source, Wright is "less than thrilled" with the length of the contract extension and the amount of guaranteed money the Mets have offered.

For his part, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has said he is "seeking clarity" on the statuses of Wright and right-hander R.A. Dickey between the Thanksgiving holiday and winter meetings in December.

Wright, who turns 30 this winter, is said to be seeking a contract extension of at least seven years and $125 million. If the Mets are unable to reach an agreement with Wright or Dickey they may look into trading their superstars.

Last year Wright hit .306/.391/.492 with 41 doubles and 21 home runs over 581 at-bats. He owns a career line of .301/.381/.506.
