The Chicago Cubs acquired prospect Barret Loux, a former top pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, and a player to be named later from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Jacob Brigham, the Cubs announced Tuesday. Brigham returns to the Rangers after being traded by the club on the trade deadline last season as part of the Geovany Soto trade.

As part of an after move, the Cubs designated Bryan LaHair for assignment, as reported by Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune. According to Sullivan, the 2011 NL All-Star is likely headed to Japan.

The 30-year-old outfielder/first baseman mashed got off to a scorching start last season with the Cubs, batting .286/.364/.519 with 14 home runs in the first half. Unfortunately for LaHair, he batted just .202/.269/.303 in the second half of the season.
