The Red Sox have called on free-agent right-hander Kyle Lohse, but the veteran may be "too risky" for Boston to take on, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe:
Lohse had a great year and yes, the Red Sox have called about him.
At 34, he may be a bit out of their age range. He’s probably looking for at least three years and that may be risky.
The Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals have also made inquiries on Lohse, but nothing concrete is in the works. The right-hander is likely to wait until top free agent Zack Greinke signs on with a club before negotiating a deal with anyone in order to boost his perceived value. The right-hander was paid roughly $12 million each of the last two seasons but -- with the help of agent Scott Boras -- is likely in for a large raise.
Lohse put together a career year for the Cardinals in 2012, posting a 2.86 ERA and 3.76 SO/BB ratio in a career-high two hundred eleven innings pitched.
