The Cleveland Indians designated right-hander Fabio Martinez for assignment, the team has announced:

In corresponding roster moves the Indians added left-hander T.J. House, right-handers Chen-Chang Lee and Trey Haley and outfielder Tim Fedroff to the 40-man roster.

Martinez joined the Los Angeles Angels’ Dominican Summer League team in 2007 as a 17-year-old. He spent five seasons with the Halos before joining the Indians this year.

The 23-year-old spent the 2012 season with the Angels’ and Indians’ high-A clubs. He combined to finish with ugly numbers, posting an ERA of 10.24 over 16 appearances, including eight starts. The right-hander walked 40 batters over 29 innings pitched while striking out 30.

While his control issues were magnified last season, he’s had trouble commanding his stuff throughout his career. Over six seasons at the minor league level Martinez has maintained an ERA of 4.00 with 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings and 6.3 walks per nine innings.
