Pirates sign six minor leaguers

The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially agreed to terms on minor league contracts with six free agents.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially agreed to terms on minor league contracts with six free agents, including Felix Pie, Brooks Brown, Erik Cordier, David Bromberg, Luis Sanz and Alex Valdez, the team has announced:

The Pie agreement was reported yesterday.

Right-handers Brooks Brown and Erik Cordier received invitations to major league spring training along with their minor league contracts.

Brown, 27, posted an ERA of 4.90 over 29 appearances, including 19 starts, for the Detroit Tigers Triple-A affiliate last season. He owns a career ERA of 4.23 over seven seasons in the minors.

Cordier maintained an ERA of 5.85 over 17 appearances, including five starts, between three levels of the Atlanta Braves’ minor league organization in 2012. The 26-year-old has posted an ERA of 4.25 over seven seasons in the minors.

Bromberg and Sanz are each 25 years old and right-handed pitchers. Bromberg has posted an ERA of 3.68 over seven seasons in the minors while Sanz owns a career mark of 3.80 over seven seasons in the minors.

Valdez is a 28-year-old infielder who’s hit .269/.328/.426 over nine seasons in the minors.
