Having already met with the Seattle Mariners, Mike Napoli will now hear what the Boston Red Sox have to say (or offer), as the free-agent is scheduled to meet with the Boston Red Sox in Boston this weekend, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Even though the Red Sox view Napoli as a hybrid first baseman/catcher, according to Heyman, the team will likely look to move one of their catchers, if they can close the deal. Boston currently has newly acquired David Ross, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Ryan Lavarnway on their roster.
The Texas Rangers remain as a potential suitor for Napoli, but the their interest could be questioned as the team declined to offer Napoli a one-year, $13.3 million qualifying offer.
It sounds as if Napoli already received an offer from the Red Sox, but is holding out for an additional year that would bring the total length of the deal to four seasons. Will the Red Sox meet his asking price this weekend?
