The Oakland Athletics have traded infielder Brandon Hicks to the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations, the Mets announced via Twitter on Monday afternoon. The move comes just less than one week after the A's designated Hicks for assignment.

The 27-year-old Hicks batted just .172/.243/.391 in 70 plate appearances with the A's last season before being sent down to the minor leagues. Historically, the shortstop/third baseman has struggled at the major league level, but nonetheless receives a fresh start with the Mets.

Had the A's not dealt Hicks, they may have lost him via waivers to another team. The trade gives Oakland something in return for a player they would have lost, even if that is just cash considerations.
