The Baltimore Orioles have acquired infielder Danny Valencia from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations, the team has announced:

In a corresponding roster move the O’s have designated first baseman/outfielder Joe Mahoney for assignment.
The Red Sox acquired Valencia from the Minnesota Twins last summer in exchange for Jeremias Pineda. Over 44 combined games with the Twins and Red Sox last season the 28-year-old hit .188/.199/.299 with six doubles, one triple and three home runs.
Valencia was Minnesota’s primary third baseman in 2011, hitting .246/.294/.383 with 28 doubles, two triples and 15 home runs over 564 at-bats. He owns a career line of .257/.297/.389 over three seasons at the major league level.
Valencia spent a majority of last season with the minor league affiliates of the Twins and Red Sox. He hit .259/.300/.404 with 20 doubles, one triple and eight home runs over 317 combined at-bats at the Triple-A level.
