Cardinals rumors: St. Louis "open" to trading Skip Schumaker

The Cardinals are “open” to the idea of trading second baseman Skip Schumaker.

The St. Louis Cardinals are "open" to the idea of trading second baseman Skip Schumaker, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

The Cardinals are open to trading second baseman Skip Schumaker, who is under contract for $1.5 million next season.

St. Louis used Daniel Descalso as their primary second baseman last season, and it appears he and the team’s other young infield talent could make Schumaker expendable in the Cardinals’ eyes this offseason.

Schumaker showed his versatility last season, as made starts at all three outfield positions along with spending a majority of his time at second base. He posted a productive year at the plate, as he hit .276/.339/.368 with 19 extra-base hits over 272 at-bats.

Schumaker has been an everyday player in the outfield and at second for the Cardinals, and teams with a need at second could target him this winter. He’s set to make $1.5 million in 2013 and he owns a career line of .288/.345/.377 over eight seasons at the major league level.
