Asencio’s new deal with the Brewers includes an invitation to spring training.
Asencio spent the 2012 season with the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs. After the Indians purchased his contract from the Atlanta Braves in March, the right-hander went on to appear in 18 games for Cleveland. Over 25 2/3 innings he maintained an ERA of 5.96.
Asencio was then selected off waivers by the Cubs on June 1. The 28-year-old posted an ERA of 3.07 over 12 appearances spanning 14 2/3 innings.
Over a combined 30 appearances between the Indians and Cubs last season Asencio maintained an ERA of 4.91 with 6.5 strikeouts per nine innings and 4.2 walks per nine innings.
Asencio has spent a majority of his professional career pitching in the minors, where he’s maintained an ERA of 3.75 over the past eight seasons.
