Veteran right-hander Javier Vazquez is contemplating a comeback after sitting out the 2012 season, reports Peter Gammons of MLB.com:
Alltime good person Javy Vazquez will pitch for Ponce after Thanksgiving, Puerto Rico in WBC and see if he wants to come back
— Peter Gammons (@pgammo) November 6, 2012
Vasquez, 36, pitched well for the Marlins in 2011, posting a 3.69 ERA and 7.6 K/9 across thirty-two starts, but decided to throw in the towel so that he could spend time with his family in Puerto Rico. Now that a season has passed, however, Vazquez will give baseball another go this winter to see if he wants to return for a full MLB season.
If Vazquez pitches well in the World Baseball Classic, teams could view him as this year's Andy Pettitte and jump at signing him to a one-year contract. The fourteen-year major-league veteran owns a career 4.22 ERA, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 in over twenty-eight hundred innings pitched in his career.
