Diamondbacks rumors: Justin Upton on the trading block again?

The Arizona Diamondbacks have put outfielder Justin Upton on the trading block for the third time in the last two years, sources have told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

Once again the Arizona Diamondbacks are trying to trade right fielder Justin Upton.

Maybe the third time will be a charm.

Ken Kendrick, the team's managing general partner, told a Phoenix radio station in October that Upton was "highly likely" to return.

Major-league sources, however, say the team is again engaged in active discussions about Upton, and one estimates the chances of him playing elsewhere next season are "80-20."

The D’Backs tried to move Upton, 25, at the 2010 GM meetings and again at the trade deadline this July, but were unsuccessful both times. Signed to a five-year contract in 2009, Upton is owed $9.75 million next year, $14.25 million in 2014 and $14.5 million in 2015.

After an MVP-like season in 2011, Upton regressed a bit this year in the power department but still put up solid numbers. The young outfielder hit .280/.355/.430 with seventeen home runs in one hundred fifty games.

Upton had a limited no-trade list last season that consisted of the Red Sox, Cubs, Yankees and Indians, but that list has now changed. Both the Red Sox and Indians are on the prowl for outfield help, so Upton could be in the cards for both if no longer on his no-trade list.
