Diamondbacks rumors: Trevor Bauer has "fallen out of favor" with organization

Justin Upton may not be the only player on the trading block in Arizona this winter.

Arizona Diamondbacks top pitching prospect Trevor Bauer has "fallen out of favor" with people in the organization and may be on the trading block alongside outfielder Justin Upton, reports Jerry Crasnick of ESPN:

Tearing his way through the D’Backs’ minor-league system in his first full season, the 21-year-old Bauer got his first shot at the big leagues in late June. The young right-hander struggled in four starts, posting a 6.06 ERA and walking thirteen batters in sixteen and a third innings, and was promptly demoted to Triple-A.

Bauer continued to dominate minor-league hitting once he returned, amassing a 2.85 ERA and 10.6 K/9 in fourteen starts, but never got the call back up to the big-league club. Rated as the No. 9 overall prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2012 season, Bauer only helped his cause with his stellar numbers this year.

It seems odd for a team to make one of their top names available so suddenly, especially one with an upside like Bauer’s, but perhaps there is more to the "falling out of favor" story than is available at the moment.
