The Toronto Blue Jays have designated left-hander Scott Maine for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for new acquisitions Jeremy Jeffress and Maicer Izturis, reports Shi Davidi of Sportsnet:

Maine, 27, was one of several players claimed off of waivers by the Blue Jays last month following the end of the regular season. The left-hander made thirty appearances out of the Indians and Cubs’ bullpens this past season, posting a 6.08 ERA, 5.1 BB/9 and 10.8 K/9 in twenty-six and two-thirds innings.

Maine has now pitched in parts of the three big-league seasons, receiving most of his playing time this year. Maine has shown the ability to miss bats at every level, but has also struggled to find the strike zone at times. He owns a career 9.3 K/9 in his brief time in the majors, but his strikeout-to-walk ratio is only at 1.92 because of a walk rate 4.8 BB/9.
