Mets rumors: New York will not trade Ike Davis

The New York Mets have decided not to part ways with first baseman Ike Davis this winter despite earlier rumors to the contrary, reports Joel Sherman of the NY Post:

The Mets are so determined to become a more power-oriented team that they have decided they will not trade Ike Davis, The Post has learned.

"If we trade him, where do we find those 32 homers?" one team executive said.

Instead of sending Davis packing and moving Lucas Duda to first base, the Mets have decided to keep the lefty pair in the same positions as last year and try to add a another power bat through a trade, possibly in a deal for knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.

Davis, 25, got off to a very slow start for the Mets in 2012 and his numbers never quite fully rebounded, hitting .227/.308/.462 on the year. In spite of his low batting average and on-base percentage, Davis still managed to put up some large counting numbers, racking up a career-high thirty-two home runs and ninety runs batted in on the year.
