After tendering Burke Badenhop a contract for 2013 at Friday night's deadline, the Tampa Bays quickly turned around and dealt the reliever to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league player Raul Mondesi Jr., the Brewers announced Saturday.
The #Brewers acquired reliever Burke Badenhop today from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for outfielder Raul Mondesi Jr.
At 29 years of age, Badenhop posted a 3.03 ERA across 62 1/3 innings of work along with a 6.1 K/9 and 1.7 BB/9 in his first season with the Rays. The right-handed reliever did well against same sided batters to a triple slash line of .239/ .260/.350 in 174 plate appearances, but left-handed batters hit .300/.356/.488 in 88 plate appearances.
Badenhop earned $1,075,000 million last season and will certainly receive a raise through arbitration this offseason.
The Rays acquire Mondesi Jr., who hit .231/.282/.374 in 298 plate appearances last season in rookie ball.
