Yankees Notes: Ichiro, Youkilis, Cashman

The latest offseason news and rumors for the New York Yankees.

Steven Bisig-US PRESSWIRE

The New York Yankees have been one of the most active teams of the last few days, and news continues to find its way to the Bronx:

  • The Yankees are getting very close to re-signing Ichiro Suzuki, but the deal will not get done tonight according to Jeff Bradley of The Star Ledger. The Phillies were going hard after Suzuki, so the Yankees might have to push it to two years.
  • Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports says that the Yankees strategy of overpaying for free agents for one year (like Kevin Youkilis) might not be a good idea, and says Brian Cashman should have tried to trade for a power bat like Justin Upton or Michael Morse.
  • Jared Smith of SBNation New York talks about how the signing of Youkilis, a former Red Sox, feels a little bit different than other signings.
  • Steven Goldman of Pinstriped Bible talks about his perspective on the likelihood of the Yankees signing Ichiro.
