The Chicago Cubs have designated left-hander Jeff Beliveau for assignment, the team has announced:

The Cubs designated Beliveau for assignment to create room on their roster for recently re-signed third baseman Ian Stewart.
Beliveau made his major league debut for the Cubs last season. The 25-year-old allowed nine runs on 21 hits and 12 walks with 17 strikeouts over 17 2/3 innings.
Beliveau spent a majority of the 2012 season with the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate. Over 37 appearances in the minors the left-hander maintained an ERA of 3.89 with 10.6 strikeouts and 3.7 walks per nine innings. Over five seasons at the minor league level he’s posted an ERA of 2.86 with 11.6 strikeouts and 4.0 walks per nine innings.
