R.A. Dickey trade breakdown

Who went where and who got what in the seven-player deal between the Blue Jays and Mets.

Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE

Cy Young knuckleballer R.A. Dickey passed his physical in Florida yesterday, thus completing a seven-player trade between the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays.

In the several days it took to officially complete the deal, there were a whole host of numbers and players' names thrown around in the various iterations of the trade, and so we thought it would behoove us to break down the final details of the deal.

The key stipulation in the trade was that the Blue Jays had until Tuesday at 2:00pm ET to work out a contract extension with Dickey. In the end, Toronto got rid of the right-hander's standing $5 million contract for 2013 and gave him a three-year $29 million extension with a $12 million option for the 2016 season (and $1 million buyout). Also, Dickey must donate $300k of his contract to charity.

Dickey extension breakdown:

  • 2013: $5 million
  • 2014: $12 million
  • 2015: $12 million
  • 2016: $12 million (club option with $1 million buyout)

The players involved...

Blue Jays receive:

  • R.A. Dickey - RHP - 38
  • Josh Thole - C - 26
  • Mike Nickeas - C - 29

Mets receive:

  • Travis d`Arnaud - C - 23
