Mets rumors: Chris Young back on radar?

The New York Mets are exploring all their options now that they have parted ways with their rotation anchor, R.A. Dickey, and are believed to be interested in bringing back lanky right-hander Chris Young, reports Andy Martino of the New York Daily News:

The Dickey trade re-opens the possibility that Chris Young could return to the Mets, as the team considers him among other options...

According to a team insider, the Mets are also considering Young again, making another reunion possible with a pitcher who seemed certain to depart...

With Dickey on the Mets, it seemed that Young would find a better opportunity elsewhere.

Now, he could be more reliable than any of the team’s internal options.

Young, 33, signed with the New York Mets as a free agent before the 2011 season, but only lasted four starts before re-tearing the anterior capsule in his always troubling throwing shoulder. The injury required surgery that sidelined the tall right-hander until early June 2012.

Young pitched well in his return to the mound this past season, posting a 4.15 ERA and 6.3 K/9 rate in 115 innings over 20 starts. According to Martino, the veteran believed that he had earned himself a spot on a big-league rotation with his successful comeback, but it seemed unlikely that spot would come from the Mets.

With injury concerns following Johan Santana and Dillon Gee around in perpetuity, Young could be a solid option to give New York's rotation a bit more depth, though he does come with injury concerns of his own. Young has had the misfortune of spending time on the 60-day DL in three of the last four seasons.
