While the Winter Meetings ended up being a lot of speculation and little in the way of substance, the rest of the month of December has been full of movement on the trade market and in free agency. Here is a recap of the latest news coming out of the East Bay:
- The A's acquired infield prospect Jefrey Marte from the New York Mets in exchange for outfielder Collin Cowgill. They also acquired right-hander Sandy Rosario from the Boston Red Sox for fellow right-hander Graham Godfrey. Rosario was later re-claimed on waivers by the Red Sox and is currently with the Giants.
- Oakland had their sights set on re-signing shortstop Stephen Drew this winter at a bit of a discount. When Drew inked a one-year, $9.5 million deal with the Red Sox, however, the A's moved on to Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima. Oakland signed the 30-year-old to a two-year, $6.5 million deal with a club option for a third season.
- The A's signed corner infielder/outfielder Scott Moore to a minor-league deal. The club also DFA'd infielder Brandon Hicks and right-hander Jim Miller.
- Left-hander Brett Anderson is not on the trading block, despite GM Billy Beane's normal proclivity to trade young starters.
